Method to my madness...

Anyone sew there own clothes?  Shirts and like? I was looking to buy a sewing machine to make my own shirts to start....

This is the inspiration.  My son girlfriend family made this for me. They are from Ghana.

Nice shirt. I don't sew (with a sewing machine) but I hem and stitch if something gets torn. A community mama wants to get Ama into sewing early though.

@kevlew...to answer your questions yes. My son and daughter make pants and I make tops. One day we gonna form like Voltron:D. Anyway we bought a pattern for like $9 and followed that. And we do have a sewing machine. If you plan to make your own clothes consistently it's worth it to buy one. I will dig up the pattern we bought and post it.

That's the spot I was thinking of but couldn't recall the name.  Man mad I missed that.  Gonna subscribe to their mailing list.   I always think if stores can have 50% off sales how much are we being ripped off on a regular.

Last week, I sewed on 2 buttons on my Kmtyw clothes and It felt amazing! For me, it won't go much further than sewing on buttons. In my family and community here, there's always someone coming or going to Ghana so I can get clothes.

Trousers! Almost everybody who sells Kmtyw clothing around here either sells women's wear or dashikis (shirts). And whenever I have a little bit of money and am able to move around all the trousers (western/regular clothes) I can afford new are cut in that strange new way that seems likely to make your underpants stick out whether you like it or not!

I'm particularly interested in Fugu wear from the North. The prices they push around here are high (NYC). If you know anyone in my area that I can deal with let me know. I'm not at a level that I can making that wear yet.

What are the prices in NYC? There's a good brotha in Kumase that buys and sends me all my books. Matter of fact, a lot of brothas and sistas are using him to get product.

$150+ just for the top. I told myself when you get to Kumase bring a empty bag or two and load up...lol. Since I know they are cheaper there. I have one I bought a long time ago (I think in the 90's) and I can't remember what I paid. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place here?
