My name is Kindomba. I want to move my family to an Kmtyw country. I've heard two differing philosophies. One says that you should thoroughly plan in terms of having contacts in place, work/business setup, housing, etc before moving - this would require multiple trips before the actual move.

The other says just come and dive in once you get there. Not that you do not plan at all with this method, but it's that you are not trying to achieve that highest level of planning where you step off the plane and everything is all setup ready to go. Here you'd step off the plane, go to stay someplace (pre-determined) and then figure out how to setup your life, so to say.

Our thing is that we have a decent amount saved to move; trips back and forth would eat into that fund...but we have hit a stand-still in terms of lack of contacts in the land.

In this situation would you just go without the contacts in place and dive in or would you continue to seek contacts? I especially would like to hear from repatriates.

If you are determined to repatriate I say go before you get to rooted in wherever you are currently. If your stakes get to deep it makes it that much harder to pull them up when you want to make the move.

Why do y'all think that there is a lack of readily available information about repatriation logistics?

Those that I know who have done it seem very guarded about discussing their strategies.They say things like "just come." I somehow doubt these folks save up $3k for a flight for them and their wife and then stay in a box in an alley once they arrive.

The only example I know is a brother who I went to school with. He was raised on the Continent but came across the ocean for university. He used the time that he was a grad student to travel to various conferences in various Kmtyw countries and made contacts (all funded through his program). Once he received his degree he already had a position waiting for him.

I thought that was a pretty good use of a graduate degree, but for those of us who are not academic heads...I wonder what other strategies Kmtyws have tried and been successful at.
