Maaha,
Recently, there has been a big craze with folks reading books on the laws of attraction such as "the secret" and the like. My question is how does this principle tie into Kmtyw spiritual systems and our way of life in empowering our people? I see positivity in the secret, but most of what is being put out is caucasoid materialism. Please share your views.

I don't believe in those books that claim to show you how to find your significant other. I believe that love is spiritual and cannot be broken down into guidelines to be read by those who are desperate to find love.

The law of attraction is not about finding a mate. The general idea is all that you are and your current circumstances are based on your thoughts and what you have manifested about yourself in your mind. Basically, you are and will be that which you think and act upon.

I know many shy away from this since it can connotate that we are quasi-demigods versus relying on the omnipotence of God to direct and order our lives. Others see it as manifesting that which God has enabled us to do and directed us to do.

My quest is to understand and take the best part in order to best serve our culture and way of life.

Thoughts are very powerful elements of the mind. You know how we've all heard "you can do anything you put your mind to",so i do believe that thoughts & behavior determine who you are & your future.

I have not read any of this material but all I will say for a surety is that OUR Kmtyw culture has all of this and more.

Olufemi, I do overstand your point about thoughts shaping your future and who you are. However, we are taught within Kmtyw spirituality that many of these things were determined by us before our earthly existence. With that in mind I will say that we can have thoughts and behaviors that ALTER certain portions of our destiny. Howevever, most of us have not had the privilege of having the types of divination done for us from infancy to know what we are here to do. So we come into the traditions later in the game and have to play a sort of catch up type of role with out own spirituality.

Therefore, I would encourage all of those serious about Kmtyw culture and spirituality to get readings that can explore your destiny and the parameters thereof. Such spiritual readings make these books written by Yurugu look like child's play.

I had seen the documentary entitled "The Secret". To me it's just incomplete. Way too simple. I mean think about the law for a second for real and then think about all the things that go on in this world - all the things that happen to people especially children and tell me how much sense it makes.

Also, I remember one part in there where they showed what looked like some eurasian person who lives below the poverty line working out in the fields. And they were talking about how all you gotta do is think certain thoughts and those certain thoughts eventually will become reality. In that little part where they showed this miserable looking eurasian toiling in the fields they were talking about thinking happy thoughts basically. Then they show the eurasian with a smile on his/ her face. I'm thinking if I'm in a position like that (plantation slavery basically) and I know of a great "secret" that says whatever you think about/ meditate on or whatever is what you will draw into your life then I'm gon' be thinking along the lines of freedom, not how can I be happy while enslaved.

Didn't really hit me hard after hearing all that hype about it.
They can call you whatever they want, he said. "Savior"... "Destroyer".... All that matters is what you choose.

Bear witness to his choice, children, and give thanks to your Gods. And then pray for their mercy.

For tonight, Awoɔ may sleep...

But his rage will never die.
