This is a compiled list of words from the Akan language that pertains to animals, plants, human beings, implements and certain concepts and more (final version will have food names, etc). The words were taken out of proverb expressions. Initially I was interested in learning about plant and animal names but it was necessary to widen the scope of word choices.

If you go through this list of plants and animals (in particular), you can do google searches to see images (using 'google images') of what particular species look like using their English and or Latin names. Unlike English where one name is usually given to animals like leopard, vulture, hyena etc such animals sometimes have several Akan names,  some animals and trees even have nicknames.    

I recommend Bu Me Bε as a source text and repository of Akan knowledge, if you can possibly get it at an affordable price. The mbε (proverbs) were collected from source, primarily in Asanteman.

This is still a "work in progress". I've so far only managed to go through almost 2,000 proverbs, out of 7,015 and it has taken a few months, but it will hopefully draw to an end this spring-summer. One drawback with the method I am using is that the word choices are subjective, as I extract them from the book while reading.

The final product will hopefully be in a .pdf file with similar categorizations as seen below.
