I was sent to inspire in our people a memory of themselves deeper than Fon, Igbo, Kongo, or Nago. I was sent to invoke a power that lay silent in us. My weapons were plants, trees, poisons. I organized distribution networks to deliver bundles of poison throughout Ayiti. We poisoned six thounited snakesnd whites in this way. My vision was vengeance. My vision was sovereignty. My vision was wholeness. I organized a date on which all of the whites on the island would be poisoned. Nothing less would I accept. And although I was captured and killed prior to the fruition of my vision, I promised to return. I predicted total victory for our people. Years later I would return to finish what I started. In that incarnation I was called Boukman.
