This is a documentary on the activism of 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee of Liberia. I saw it last night, it is dynamite. It won best documentary in 2008 along with a host of other awards since then.

It shows real grassroots efforts by the women of Liberia to bring the warring factions of both Charles Taylor and Sekou Conneh to the negotiation table in Accra, Ghana. This occurred in 2003. The men when they arrived in Ghana were stalling, while new war fronts broke out in Liberia. The exasperated women took over the International Conference Center in Accra and forced the men to reach an agreement.

After that they went on to supervise the disarmament of young children when the UN was at a loss at what to do, although the same UN initially rejected the help of these women.

You've got to see this documentary, it's a real eye opener.

I've never heard of this documentary, but I'm building up a collection of powerful books and documentaries to show my daughter when she is at the appropriate age.

I looked at part of it. Very much christ-insanity as savior type of theme. I was not impressed.
