Ne vous effrayez pas pour les longues phrases : lisez-les lentement, sans vous essouffler, plusieurs fois, en marquant bien les tons, vous les maîtriserez facilement.
Vous devez parvenir absolument à penser en liNgala et à ne pas traduire textuellement votre langue en liNgala.

In LITEYA YANTUKU MIBALE that I just posted,
In the sentence 3 and in Momekano's 4 and 5 : in the word Bana, there is an "upside down" circumflex over the first a.
In the sentence 5 : it's the same thing for the word yamwindo, over the i.
They wouldn't show properly so I didn't placed them.

A retenir -- To remember

When two vowels follow (are in contact with) one another (azalí wa), the first vowel disappears or undergoes a phonetic change, but its tone persists and is projected onto the following vowel and combines with the tone of the latter. The vowels i and u before any vowel (except i and u respectively) become semi-vowels y and w.

Lorsque deux voyelles se suivent (azalí wa) (sont en contact),la première voyelle disparaît ou subit un changement phonétique, mais son ton persiste et se projette sur la voyelle suivante et se combine avec le ton de cette dernière. Les voyelles i et u devant toute autre voyelle (sauf i et u respectivement) deviennent des semi-voyelles y et w.

Ex.
nazalí áwa - nazalyáwa - je suis ici -- I am here.
mobáli óyo - mobályoyo - cet homme-ci, etc -- this man, etc.

LITEYA YANTUKU NAMOTOTBA

TWENTY-SIXTH LESSON
VINGT-SIXIEME LECON

The sentence in LiNgála

In LiNgála the sentence consists of one or more clauses. The different types are : the affirmative sentence, the negative , the interrogative and the presentative.
Most clauses include a subject, a verb and a predicate. The subject dictates the verb agreement in number and person. Normally the subject precedes the predicate and the verb comes between the two.

Subject + Verb + Predicate

1 . Maríya azalí kolámba = S + V + P.......... Marie prepares ( is preparing ) = S + VP (V + P)
2 . Mamá asɛ́ngí mɔ́tɔ = S + V + P.............. Mom asks for fire = S + V + P
3 . Náni Afándí áwa ? = S + V + P.............. Who is sitting here ? = S + V + P
4 . Nalingí koyéba = SV + P....................... I want to know = S + V + P

These few examples show, first, that the notion of "subject", "verb", "predicate" is not to be understood exactly as in English. Indeed, where is the term "subject" in sentence 4 (LiNgála) ? Where is the term "predicate" in Example 1 (English) ?

We will then briefly define the "subject", the "verb" and the "predicate" in LiNgála , in a normal statement , in this case in an affirmative sentence.

A. - The subject in LiNgála can be :

1. a noun (cf. noun classes).

mobáli alingí mosálá.................... The man loves the work
mbóka ezalí kitɔ́kɔ....................... The village is beautiful

The noun can be followed by an adjective, a demonstrative , a numeral , a connective ...
The noun can be plural (There is no article in Lingala; the gender is usually given by specific nouns).

mobáli kitɔ́kɔ alingí mosálá............ a handsome man likes the work
mbóka monɛ́nɛ ezalí kɔtɔ́kɔ............ the large village is beautiful
mbóka zómí ezalí kitɔ́kɔ................  ten villages are beautiful
mobáli nangáí alingí mosálá.......... my husband loves the work

The noun can be a person's name , two nouns can be subjects of the same verb.

Maríya ná Polína bazalí kitóko......... Marie and Pauline are beautiful
Mbwá ná Nkoi Basálí mbóka........... The dog and the leopard based village

2. a verbal prefix (vp)

Nalingí koyéba............................. I want to know
Tolingí koyéba............................. We want to know
Boyébí nkómbó nangáí.................. You know my name
Oyébí mosálá.............................. You know (your) work
Ayébí elɔ́kɔ tɛ̂............................... He doesnt know anything
Balingí ngáí míngi áwa.................. They love me very much here

The vp of the third person is a- in the singular and ba- in the plural for the animated or personified beings. It is usually replaced either ( sg / pl. ) by e- in everyday language, for classes 3-15.

B. - The verb in LiNgála

A verb form in LiNgála is composed of articles that follow each other in a fixed and immutable order.
These are :

1. verbal prefix (vp) or initial
2. infix (formative , object, personal)
3. root verb (R)
4. verbal suffixes (extensions and final)

.....prefix + infix(es) + radical + extensions(s) + final
------ 1 -------- 2 --------- 3 ----------- 4 ------------- 5

But all these elements are not always present in all verbal forms. The essential elements for a complete verbal form are the root (3) and the final (5).

ko-bim-a...... to get out ......... bimá ! .......... get out !
ko-pɛ́s-a....... to give ............. pɛ́sá ! .......... give !

1. the verbal prefix (cf. table);

2. the infix is placed between the vp and the root ;- three kinds:

formative...... -ko- ...... always low
personal....... -mi- ...... always high
object ( = reflexive prefix )

3. the root is the verb form without vp and without final.
(ko)-bót-(a) ............... to give birth

4. extensions (see Litéya yantúkú mísáto namotóbá).

5. The final or inflection  consists of a single vowel element, which is placed at the end of the verb form, either directly or after the extension, its tone is simple ( high or low depending on the verbal gradations).

The verbal conjugation allows us to see 13 tabular verb forms in LiNgála (they show such a degree of compaAmwility thqt they let themselves be put in a table) showing the time since the past perfect tense, through the present tense to the future tense (cf. Litéya yantúkú mísáto namítáno) .

C. - The predicate in LiNgála can be:

1. an adjective, a connective / possessive , a locative ,an invariable , a demonstrative ...

mwǎsi óyo azalí kitɔ́kɔ......................this woman is beautiful
akómí yangáí sikǒyo.........................she is mine now
ayíngélí nandáko.............................she has gone in the house
ndáko ezalí áwa..............................the house is here
nalingí óyo......................................I want this one

2. a noun, direct object

ntaba elingí makála.........................the goat like the charcoals
tatá alingí bǎna..............................the father loves the children
The noun can be followed by ... (cf. subject p. 86).

The study of all the syntactic possibilities is the proper object of the Theoretical Part. That we have given here is only fragmentary and can only be considered as a small note.
