Although I disagree regarding how far to bring the bar down. I see no problem bring it down to your chest. But like he says don't bounce the bar off your chest, control the weigh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIRXrT7ElSc

Biceps - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC3R_nMiS4A&t=18s He's using a straight bar here but the form is the same using barbells or a bicep curl bar.

His focus is too much on aesthetics for my taste. I'm solely interested in strength training not bodybuilding. If you do things right (lifting) and you eat right you will get both anyway.

Also if you work your biceps and you need to work your triceps as well for balance. The triceps are a very significant part of your upper arms. And is actually a bigger muscle group.
Just got done looking at the second video and working on the curls like he demonstrated along with the video. I like his focus on principles that are easy to remember. I feel the bicep much more this way.

That's good. Having imperfect form will catch up with you as you age. Better to correct it now than later. I have learned that lesson. Plus my intensity used to be ridiculous, which I have had to kill because I'd probably end up killing myself if I kept that up nowadays.

Unlike the guy in the video or yourself, I'm looking less for aesthetics or strength (that is to say, perhaps just for strength's sake), but more the purpose of my technique is to assist me in lifting up and slamming grown men into the ground who are actively resisting against my doing this and then dominating them once there however I see fit by preventing them from doing anything but what I decide that they will do or not do. I've been successful at doing this for the past several years. You can see me accomplishing this against a judo guy (they're supposed to be pretty good at grappling and preventing slams) towards the end of this clip:

I'm not sure what you or the guy in the video intend to functionally accomplish with whatever strength or aesthetics that you develop. So far, I've been strong in all the ranges that I've needed over the years, but maybe in your own grappling or whatever you're using your strength for you've needed a wider range of motion to do whatever it is that you do. Thanks for the tips!
Perhaps you don't need to use weighs at all. Just continue to practice those movements to slam and control those grown men. But I will say this if you use proper form you will get stronger. You will be able to control more grow men with greater ease. Your Capoeira workouts should always be primary. The weightlifting an add supplement. Like a tool to help you get the job done easier.

DAYYYYYYYYYYYUM, Sis!

I watched it. Then I realized I didn't have to sit on my ass while I watched it.  So I watched it a second time and worked out with you.

Part of the reason I had to do so many takes because my play list was a lil ratchet.  😂

Clearly.  LOL. I have some 'suitable' songs. But NOT the first few I chose. #lessonlearned

I definitely don't need it, it's just what I've been doing to try to stay fit since I'm no longer doing Asako 4 days a week like I was a year or two ago. Oh, no doubt...couldn't stop me from doing that if you tried. To me it's not an either/or thing and Asako is ALWAYS primary. Aesthetics or strength for strength's sake is for the birds (no pun intended). Now as someone who's been successfully slamming people for a while now I gotta tell you that statistically it is not possible to slam and control more (because I do this to all of them), though it is possible to do so numerically (like if a new person shows up). But strength is not the main factor in doing so with greater ease. I'll let you guess what is. All in all, I appreciate your concern about my weightlifting form. In your case, what do you plan on doing with the strength that you'll be acquiring in 2.5 years? And do we get to see a video of how you were slamming people before and after you improved your technique? j/k :hello:

I don't exercise for now. I think about how I want to be when I'm 70 (assuming I make it that far). If I want to be able to walk around unassisted. Go up and downstairs without damn near keeling over. Pickup grandchildren and run around with them without clutching my chest like Fred Sanford. I must put the work in now, not later when I'm 65 and on a bunch of prescription junk. That's too late. For example, I don't use escalators/elevators if there are stairs around to use. I bet you do more walking around than slamming people. If you do somethings amiss there.

Same thing with my diet, I'm eating for 70. There is a point of no return with certain things. I'm trying my best, no matter how long I live, to never reach that point. Additionally, I hope I'm never in a situation where I need to slam somebody. But if I need to I'll be in shape to do it. And my appearance of being in shape will help scare off most folks anyway lessening the likelihood of the need, among other things.
